Wireless

For current GW students, faculty and staff

Requirements

GW email and a wireless network card.

Log on to GWireless

  1. Connect to the GWireless cloud. Make sure you are connected to "GWireless" and not any other networks.
  2. Open a web browser. Mac users should use Safari. PC users can use IE or Firefox.
  3. You should be taken to http://vpn.gwu.edu. If not, type the address in the url box.
  4. After you have successfully logged into GWireless, the system will attempt to install a small client on your computer. This process may take several minutes to complete, and may require permission to install certain files on your computer.
  5. To log on after downloading the the GWireless software, first connect to GWireless. Open a browser and go to http://vpn.gwu.edu. Log on using your GW email and password.

If you encounter problems with connectivity, contact Student Technology Services.

  • STS at Gelman Library, Lower Level
    • Monday - Thursday, 5 pm - 10 pm
    • Sunday, 2 pm - 8 pm.
  • STS at City Hall 114
    • Hotline Hours: Monday - Friday, 9 am - 7 pm
    • Walk-in Hours: Monday - Friday, 9 am - 5 pm

Reference staff can provide very minimal support. Issues with connectivity should be taken to Student Technology Services.

 

For Guests

Guests, who are not current students, faculty or staff, may sign up for Guest Wireless. Come to the Reference Desk to sign up during business hours.

The Guest Wireless network is an unsecured network. Please refrain from sending sensitive information when you are on this system.

Log on to Guest Wireless

  1. Go to your Wireless Connection Network screen and click on gw_event.
  2. Open a web browser. You will be prompted to sign in with the account information created for you.

Direct printing from personal computers of guests who are not current students, faculty and staff, is not available. See section about Printing to find out how you can print your documents.

For Guest Wireless support, contact Student Technology Services.

 

Where to Use Your Laptop

Laptop use is permitted in all areas of the library except the following places:

  • 4th floor: Rooms 401 and 402 (these are quiet study areas)
  • 5th floor: Rooms 501 and 502 (these are quiet study areas)

Safekeeping

Gelman Library is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please make sure to take measures to keep your valuables safe while using them in the library.

Power Outlets

Gelman Library is not responsible for damages or lost files caused by power shortages. Power outlets may be located along the walls of the library. For added protection, consider bringing a surge protector.

 

Wired Network Access

Requirements

GW email, ethernet cable, ethernet port

Connect to the aSnap Network

  1. aSnap carrels are located in B05 and Rooms 403 and 503.
  2. Plug your laptop to the aSnap port.
  3. Launch a web browser.
  4. Log in using your GW email and password.

Wireless Printing

Wireless printing is available to current GW students, faculty and staff, who have G1 accounts. Users can release their print jobs at Academic Technologies labs. Visit the GWireless Printing page for more information.

Wireless printing is not available on the 1st, 3rd and 6th floor printers in Gelman Library.

Printing from personal computers, such as laptops, is not available on Gelman Library printers on the 1st, 3rd and 6th floors.

To print:

  • Save your documents to a USB key and open the documents on a library computer, or;
  • Email the documents to yourself as attachments and use a library computer to open and print your documents.
