GWU Medical Faculty
Borrowing Policies
- Requirement for Charging Out Books
- Your GWorld card is your
library card and is required to check out books. After you get your
GWorld card, stop by the Circulation desk to make sure your library
record is active. Use myALADIN
to maintain your preferred email address to ensure that you receive
notifications of due dates, overdue notices, available requests, and
other library emails. Failure to receive notices does not excuse you
from paying fines.

- Media Resources materials
- Periodicals
- Materials at WRLC off-site Storage Facility
- Book Limit
- None
- Loan Period
- Up to 4 months, utilizing 3 fixed due dates per year (January 31, May 31, and September 30). See details.
- Recalls
- If a book you have checked out is needed by another person, it
may be recalled. All books are subject to recall after they have been
charged out for at least 14 days. You will be notified by e-mail or
phone and will have 14 days from the date of recall to return the book
before recall fines are assessed. See details.

these renewals can begin 3 weeks before the end-of-semester due dates

the books, we will start over the process for you, allowing up to 3
more automatic renewals.

Circulation Desk. Materials will appear on the faculty member's library
account, and faculty members are responsible for materials charged out
by their faculty-authorized borrowers.
- OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program
- GW Faculty are eligible for library borrowing privileges in
the Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program (RFBP). This is a program of
the Research Libraries Advisory Committee to OCLC that allows faculty
members of participating institutions borrowing privileges and on-site
access to the collections of some of the most important research
libraries in North America.
- Prior to visiting an OCLC member institution, faculty members
need to apply for an RFBP card at the Gelman Library Circulation Desk.
Upon presentation of his or her valid GW photo ID, the faculty
member will then be issued the requisite borrower's card.
- Borrowing Privileges for Faculty Spouses
- Spouses of faculty members may apply for borrowing privileges

sufficient basis for issuing a library card. Borrowing privileges are
the same as those of a Sponsored Researcher (fee not applicable).
- Borrowing Privilges for Faculty Emeriti
