Selected premium electronic resources have been made available by special arrangement for George Washington University alumni through the generous support of the George Washington Alumni Association and the George Washington University Libraries.

- Proquest Research Library (Alumni Edition): One of Gelman Library’s most heavily used databases, Proquest Research Library provides access across a wide range of subject areas, including business, education, literature, political science,and psychology. The database includes more than 3,000 titles—over 2,500 in full text.
- ABI/Inform Complete (Alumni Edition). One of the most popular business databases with students and faculty on campus, this database provides access to nearly 4,000 business-related titles, with close to 3,000 in full-text.
- Project Muse : This database provides access to full-text articles and reviews from over 300 high quality humanities, arts, and social sciences journals from 60 scholarly publishers.
- Dissertations & Theses @ GW : A collection of citations and abstracts from dissertations and theses published by GW students. A selection of these, generally published from 1997-present, also have a 24 page preview of the work and full-text access.
- RefWorks: An online research management, writing, and collaboration tool. It is designed to help researchers easily gather, manage, store and share all types of information, as well as generate citations and bibliographies.
- JSTOR Archive: Includes scholarship in over one thousand of the highest-quality academic journals across the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Also includes free Early-Journal Content, journals published before 1923 in the U.S. and before 1870 outside of the U.S.

The following electronic resources are publicly available and do not require a login.
- ERIC.Gov : ERIC provides access to nearly 1.2 million citations going back to 1966 and, with contributor permission, accessing more than 110,000 full-text materials.
- PubMed : PubMed provides access to citations from biomedical literature.
- GPO Access : GPO Access is a service of the U.S. Government Printing Office that provides free electronic access to a wealth of important information products produced by the Federal Government.
Using Local Resources In Your Area
Your local public library allows remote access to their online databases once you are registered as a user. They can also facilitate Interlibrary Loan requests for books and articles they do not own. As a state resident, you may also be eligible for in library use of databases at a local state college or university. To locate your local library's website, go to LibWebCats. Please read their Access and Borrowing privileges or call the reference number for the library.
You may also locate book and journal articles via the following free links. You would need to access these via your local library:
- WorldCat: WorldCat provides access to over 1.5 billion items from libraries worldwide, with an emphasis on U.S. titles.
- Google Books : Google Books provides access to books and table of contents, at times providing access to previews or full text for titles out of copyright. Through its Advanced Search page, Google Books allows you to search for articles in magazines.
- Google Scholar : Google Scholar focuses on scholarly literature. You may find full text articles, reports, studies, etc. as well as citations to these.
