Surveyor Catalog: Now Available in Beta

Gelman introduces Surveyor, an innovative discovery interface that makes searching faster, smarter and simpler.

Gelman Library System is proud to introduce Surveyor, a continuing effort to provide the most innovative search technologies to the GW community.   Surveyor, a revolutionary new interface for discovering valuable materials in the Gelman collection, as well as resources on the Web, is now available in beta test.  Surveyor searches all indexed content with a single query, regardless of format or where the content is located in the GW libraries. You can expand your search into other library resources such as database information, e-journals, tables of contents, archives and manuscript finding aids, and the Gelman website.

Surveyor incorporates popular web social networking tools, such as tagging and word clouds.  A feature called “My Discoveries” makes it simple for Surveyor users to tag their discoveries and put them into subject-based lists. These lists can be retrieved and shared with friends and colleagues. The Surveyor “My Discoveries” feature even lets you write reviews of things you’ve read or used.

Search results are simultaneously ranked by relevance and visualized using word clouds that offer opportunities for further exploration. Results can be further refined using faceted navigation tools which filter by format, language, genre, region, time period and other attributes of the publication.

We welcome your feedback on Surveyor, as we will be continuously working to improve and refine this new tool. Please use this form
