Hebrew Printing in Ukraine

Hebrew Printing in Ukraine

The territory which is today Ukraine was an historic center of Hebrew printing. An exhibit mounted on the 10th anniversary of the I. Edward Kiev Judaica Collection provides a geographic and typographic panorama of books from dozens of towns once famous for their printing shops. Included are ancient and modern texts produced over the course of centuries in Hebrew, Aramaic, Yiddish and Karaite Tatar, all in Hebrew characters.

Please visit the online version of this exhibit at http://www.gwu.edu/gelman/spec/exhibits/ukraineprinting/. The physical exhibit is currently on display in the Kiev Room on Gelman Library's 7th floor, through January 2010.
