Rare Map Collection
The Special Collections Research Center holds an extensive set of antiquarian and rare maps. Two collections in particular are of note: the Washingtoniana Map Collection (SCRC Collection Map 00001) and the Samuel Halperin and Henry Epstein Maps of the Holyland Collection (SCRC Collection Map 00002). All of the maps in Special Collections are individually cataloged. Maps in the two collections listed above can also be found by using the online finding aids to the rare map collections.
- Washingtoniana Map Collection, 1630-2003
- Maps of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and the adjacent states, ranging from 1630 through 2003.
- Samuel Halperin and Henry Epstein Maps of the Holy Land Collection, 1590-2000
- Maps of Israel, Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Lebanon and their historical antecedents from 1590 through the 20th Century. The 20th Century maps are by-and-large travel maps, tourist maps, and other cartographic materials which provide useful insights into the way in which claims of ownership and access to land were being made by various communities in the region.
