Buck Downs Literary Papers Now Available for Research

Posted by Jennifer Kinniff at Jul 20, 2009 11:33 AM |

The correspondence files for local poet and publisher Buck Downs were recently acquired by the SCRC and are now available for research.

This is the first of several planned donations by Downs; the Special Collections Research Center will ultimately house his complete literary papers.  Buck Downs (1964- ) is a poet, publisher, editor, and long-time resident of Washington, DC.  His poems have appeared in journals including Puppyflowers, Brooklyn Rail, and Columbia Poetry Review. His books include Ladies Love Outlaws, In Memory of D. Thompson, Small Pieces Loosely Joined, twist riffs & stiff hits, Recreational Vehicle, and Marijuana Softdrink.  Downs is known for his engaging, high energy reading style.

Currently the collection contains correspondence, poems, postcards, handwritten and typed manuscripts, and photographs dated from 1984-2009. These items were mailed or sent to Buck from other artists, poets, publishers, authors, and friends.

See a description of the collection here. A box listing can be produced by staff upon request (contact us at speccoll@gwu.edu or 202-994-7549).
