Refworks is Awesome! Find out why.

Refworks is Awesome! Find out why.

Have you heard about Refworks?  No?!?!  Refworks is an online tool for organizing your research and creating bibliographies.  RefWorks allows you to store and file your references in different folders, add research notes or other information, and format your paper, dissertation, or other research project with the click of a button.  Additionally, because RefWorks is an online tool, you have access to your account from any computer and you can easily locate the items using the Find-It button!  Best of all - it is FREE thanks to your friends at the Gelman Library System!

You're going to be conducting research and writing papers, so you need to get to know Refworks.  Fortunately, Bill Gillis, Librarian Extraordinaire will be hosting 2 workshops in Eckles Room 305 on:

Tuesday, September 22 at 3pm

Thursday, September 24 at 6pm

Interested?  You can RSVP to Bill at Gillis@gwu.edu, but if you forget you can just show up anyway.  OR if these times don't work for you, contact Bill and he'll work something out.

Don't Be a Swine

We've been hearing a lot about the H1N1 flu these days, especially how we're looking for a resurrgence this fall when we are all happily back in classes.  GW has a task force that is working hard to keep all healthy, but we all have to do our part.  And a big part of "our part" is hand washing!

Where is the Coffee?

Where is the Coffee?

If you live on the Mount Vernon Campus, then you received one of our fabulous new green Eckles Mugs.  Now, you may be wondering, "where's the coffee?"  At Eckles, of course!

I know, I know, Eckles is a big place, but no worries!  When you walk in the front door, take a look to your right.  You'll see a black arrow that says in big letters, "Coffee."  Follow those arrows!  They will lead you to the 2nd floor student lounge and quarter coffee, cappuccino and hot chocolate for only a quarter.

If you've forgotten your cup, don't worry - you can purchase an emergency cup at the circulation desk for only another quarter.

Eckles Library is once again pleased to host an exhibit of photographs taken by GW students on Alternative Spring (and Winter) Breaks last year.  In the past, we've had only photos from the annual Spring Break trips to New Orleans, but this year we have photos taken on 6 different trips!

The exhibit is along both gallery walls on the first floor of Eckles and will run through Wednesday, September 23rd.  You can view it anytime Eckles is open.

We've got great photos from the following 2009 breaks:

New Orleans, Louisiana (March, 2009)

Atlanta, GA (March, 2009)

San Ignacio, Belize (January, 2009)

Greensburg, Kansas (March, 2009)

Appalachian South Folklife Center
Pipestern, WV (March, 2009)

Cherokee Nation
Tahlequah, Oklahoma (March, 2009)

It's Not the Same Old Eckles!

It's Not the Same Old Eckles!

Welcome new students and Welcome Back old friends!

You may notice something a little different on the second and third floors of Eckles these days.  We've got New Furniture and a Brand New Study Space.  There are all new chairs (they roll!) and new tables.  They're  fabulous and we know you'll help keep them that way.

Just so you know, we don't do anything without student input, and this furniture is no different.  We heard from you that you needed more study space and more flexibility so we bought small tables that roll.  These tables can be rolled together for a large group or rolled apart for privacy or smaller groups.

Enjoy the new furniture!  And be sure to let us know what else we can do to make Eckles even better.
